Falcons to Host Army in Service Academy Showdown
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Air Force boxing team returns to the Academy for a showdown with service academy rival Army on Friday (Nov. 4) in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym. The card features nine bouts in seven different weight classes, ranging from 117 to 195-pounds.
This is the second time in as many weeks that members from the Air Force and Army clubs have faced off, as the Black Knights took two decisions from the Falcons at the annual tri-meet with Navy last weekend at the Detroit Athletic Club.
Freshman Miguel Valenzuela makes his collegiate debut in a 117-pound contest with Army's Mike Benedossa to kick off the match, while classmate Travis Miller will take on Russ Calloway of Army in a 142-pound contest. Sophomore Clifford Moore will step into the ring with Army's Craig Baer in a 160-pound match, before senior team captain Luis Pena faces off with the Black Knights' Dave Bounds at 144 pounds.
Two bouts at 175 pounds bracket a pair of 185-pound contests. Sophomore Bruce Jamison will face Army's Vinnie Rivera in the first 175 pound bout, before junior Dustin Mayne and sophomore Chris Johnson take on Army's Kory Kastl and Alex Rendon, respectively, in two 185-pound bouts. Junior Evin Negron will enter the ring with the Leon Perry of Army in the second 175-pound contest. Senior Oscar Casillas closes out the evening with a 195-pound showdown with Army's Andy Wassel.
Action begins at 4:30 in the Upper Boxing Room and admission is free.
