DETROIT, Mich. -- Backed by four victories, the Air Force boxing team topped Army and Navy at the prestigious second-annual Detroit Athletic Club Invitational on Friday, Oct. 29, in Detroit, Mich. The Falcons collected four wins, while Army took three and Navy earned two.

Marcos Gonzales (Alamosa, Colo.) defeated Army's Dave Tyson at 155-pounds, while Trevor Cook (Sparks, Nev.) took the decision from the Black Knights' Matt Pride at 162-pounds. Make Sackenheim (Hamilton, Ohio) and Augustin Kamdem (Yaounde', Cameroon) both took bouts from Navy boxers, as Sackenheim earned the decision at 179-pounds and Kamdem toppled Chris Lonero at 180-pounds.

Also competing for the Blue and Silver were Luis Pena (Laredo, Texas), who lost the decision to Army's Geerati Choosang at 145-pounds, and Oscar Casillas (El Paso, Texas) who lost to Navy's Greg Watten at 205-pounds when the referee stopped the contest in the second round.

"The cadets really showed their skills," head coach Eddie Weichers stated. "Our boxers were focused and prepared. I was very pleased with the discipline and composure we displayed before and during the matches."

Following his decision in the 185-pound bout, Kamdem was chosen as the Academy's Boxer of the Week. The senior handily defeated an aggressive Lonero (Navy) for the second time in as many years. Kamdem used great movement and a stiff jab to out-point the hard charging Midshipmen. He showed a beautiful one-two combination to keep Lonero at bay throughout the bout.

Air Force returns to action on Friday (Nov. 5), when they travel to West Point, N.Y., for another session with the Black Knights of Army. Start time is slated for 7 p.m. at Hayes Gym on the Army post.
