USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force boxing team will host 12 home competitions during the upcoming 2009-10 campaign, head coach Eddie Weichers recently announced. During the season, the Falcons will host service academy rival Army, eight rounds of Friday Night Fights and the annual Wing Open Tournament. Air Force's home schedule, which begins Oct. 9, will continue through the Wing Open Championships on March 4.

The Falcons return one national champion, three NCBA All-Americans and four Wing Open champions.

Air Force opens the season on Oct. 2, when they travel to Annapolis, Md., for the annual showdown with Navy. The home season begins the following week (Oct. 9) in the first round of Friday Night Fights at the Cadet Gym Upper Boxing Room. The Falcons will head to Detroit, Mich., on Oct. 23 for the annual Service Academy Classic with Army and Navy, before closing out the first month of the season with a round of Friday Night Fights (Oct. 30).

The month of November begins at home against Army (Nov. 6) and is followed by a pair of Friday Night Fights (Nov. 13, Nov. 20). Select boxers will travel to the NCBA Showcase in New York, N.Y., on Nov. 21. Air Force will host one more round of Friday fights on Dec. 4, before the Falcons head home for their winter break.

The second half of the season commences on Jan. 15 with a round of Friday Night Fights. Air Force will close out the intrasquad season one week later (Jan. 22), before traveling to Seattle, Wash. (Jan. 30) and Reno, Nev. (Feb. 5) for a pair of bouts against other programs in the National Collegiate Boxing Association.

The Falcons' annual Wing Open Tournament begins on Feb. 11, with the preliminary round of competition. The quarterfinal (Feb. 18) and semifinal (Feb. 24) matches will help determine the 24 boxers that will converge on Clune Arena for the Wing Open Championships on Thursday, March 4.

The NCBA Regional Championships will be held in Reno, Nev., (official dates have not been set), while the 2010 NCBA National Championships will take place April 8-10 in West Point, N.Y.
