Falcons Kick Off Wing Open Boxing Tournament

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – An exciting month of Academy boxing officially kicks off this Thursday (Feb. 16), as Air Force begins competition for the 59th Wing Open Tournament. The Wing Open, which began in 1958 with just four bouts, has become one of the most anticipated events on the Academy calendar.

The men’s card will feature 36 boxers in nine weight classifications, ranging from 119- to 185-pounds, while the women’s lineup includes 12 boxers in four weight classes.

The champions of the Wing Open Tournament will form the nucleus of the Air Force squad that will represent the Academy at the upcoming National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) regional and national championship meets. For 2017, the NCBA regional meet will take place on March 16-18 in Reno, Nev., while the finals will be held in Lawrenceburg, Ind., on April 6-8.

Admission is free to all three rounds of the Wing Open Tournament, including the championship round inside Clune Arena on March 2. In addition, the finals will be streamed live online through GoAirForceFalcons.com.
