Air Force Has Strong Showing at Friday Night Fights
Nov. 9, 2012
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With all but one of the 10 bouts going to the final bell, the Air Force boxing team hosted another round of Friday Night Fights on Nov. 9 at the Academy. Glenn Miltenberg was the recipient of the program's Boxer of the Week award.
Competing in a 154-pound contest, Miltenberg won a hard-fought decision over Sean Cork. The pair, which are ranked first and second on the program's Champs and Challengers Board, featured a stellar bout that got the crowd on their feet. Both boxers landed sharp combinations and carried a fast pace throughout the three two-minute bouts, before Miltenberg earned the judges' final decision.
Logan Brandt, who moved up to the 192-pound weight class for the night, earned a decision over Gytenis Borusas, while Will Petersen took a 148-pound victory from Joseph Lee. Mike Leland defeated Zigmas Polinauskas at 165 pounds and Stephen Bittner took a decision over Pete Coote in a 133-pound bout.
Several of the newer faces of Air Force boxing also took to the ring on Friday night. Brandon Pitts decisioned Jack Neilan in a 165-pound bout, while Collin Fleck earned the judges' vote over Shane Riley at 175 pounds. Matthew Medara defeated Levi Braley at 147 pounds, while Jamal Johnson closed out the night with a 132-pound victory over Mohamed El Ghodhbane.
In the only match of the night that didn't go to the final bell, Andrew Munoz forced the referee to stop his 140-pound with Jacob Berggren during the third round.
The Falcons return to action on Monday, Nov. 19, when select boxers travel to New York City for the NCBA Showcase.
