Falcons Return to Action with Friday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After two weeks of competing against service academy rivals, the Air Force boxing team returned to inter-wing action with another round of Friday Night Fights on Nov. 8. A total of 14 contenders took to the ring inside the Cadet Gym Boxing Room for seven bouts, ranging from 118- to 178-pounds.
Peter Coote got the night started with a decision over Jamal Johnson in the 132-pound bout, while Mateus Arcano decisioned Esteban Perez at 118 pounds. For his win, Arcano was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Sam Sheikh and Billy Bautista both earned victories in the 156-pound weight class, as Sheikh decisioned Tim Welkner and Bautista earned a decision over Mike Kelley in the night's final bout.
In the only bout of the night that wasn't turned over to the judges, Taylor Lopez Olijnyk forced the referee to stop his 168-pound bout with Kaleb Rockwell. Chad Turney captured a decision over Otto Sunday in a 178-pound contest, while Jacob Hurst rounded out the list of the winners, as he took a decision from Matt Medara at 150 pounds.
The Falcons have a quick turnaround, as four boxers travel to Arlington, Va., for the Veterans Day Armed Forces Collegiate Boxing Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 10. The match, which will be tape-delayed on ESPN2 and ESPNU, features boxers Air Force, Army, Navy and Coast Guard.
