Air Force Concludes Second Round of Friday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force boxing team concluded its second round of Friday Night Fights on Oct. 18 with nine hard-fought contests in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room. Freshman Darnell Jones was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week after winning his debut at 170 pounds.
Jones, who claimed his first victory when the referee stopped his contest with Kaleb Rockwell, was one of two boxers to pick up an early win. Tim Welkner also picked up a referee-stopped win during a 155-pound contest with Paul Vesta.
The night opened with a pair of contests featuring members of the intercollegiate team. Gytenis Borusas claimed a split decision over Denis Vorobyov in the 187-pound contest, while Ethan Salgado used long punches to defeat Jacob Berggren at 144 pounds.
In the second-lightest bout of the night (145 pounds), Jonfranco Shattuck took a decision from Sage Keltee. Samuel Sheikh defated Jordon Cox by decision in the 152-pound bout, while Mike Kelley claimed a draw in his 156-pound bout with Winston Sanks. Colin Fleck picked up a decisional win over Otto Sunday at 180 pounds, while Scott Wawrzyniak decisioned Matas Leckas in the 200-pound contest.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Detroit, Mich., for the annual Service Academy Classic at the Detroit Athletic Club.
