USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With all of the positions on the 2006-07 "Champs and Challengers" board up for grabs, the Air Force boxing team hosted the first of six rounds of Friday Night Fights on Oct. 13, in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym.  The afternoon featured 12 hard-hitting bouts, ranging from 119 pounds to heavyweight.

Dean Chuva, fresh off of his victory over Navy last week, opened the afternoon's contest with a 119-pound decision over Kanit Daranutana. Jesse Horton claimed a decision over Miguel Valenzuela in a 120-pound contest.

Defending national champion Ezekiel Ignaco took a decision from Harvey White at 131 pounds, while Seth Gunn decisioned Anthony Tipton at 143 pounds.  Sean May claimed his second victory of the season, decisioning Ryan Price in a 154-pound contest. Dominic Folia took a decision from Frederick Diederich at 160 pounds.

Two bouts were contested at the 175-pound weight class.  Lincoln Miller took a decision from Aubrey Aldridge, while Mark Ruther defeated Bruce Jamison by decision.  Ruther earned the first Boxer of the Week honor of his career following the hard-fought win over Jamison. Using hard shots to the head and body, Ruther worked the inside to gain the close-fought decision. Although Jamison had the reach advantage, Ruther was able to work inside to earn the valuable points.

Matthew Deming defeated Ruben Ihiut by decision at 180 pounds. Elon Brumfield fought to a draw with Jon Andresen at 185 pounds, while Chris Johnson took a decision from Andrew Catoire in the same eight class.  In the final bout of the night, Eric Garcia decisioned Matt Lopez in a heavyweight bout.

Air Force steps away from the Academy next week, as they travel to Detroit, Mich., for the annual All-Academy Championships on Friday, Oct. 27.
