USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team opened the home season this afternoon (Oct. 13) with its first Friday Nights Fights event of the 2017-18 academic year. Senior Naji Bseiso, one of five winners at the Cadet Gym Boxing Room, was named the Academy’s Boxer of the Week.
Bseiso, competing the first – and lightest – bout of the afternoon, captured a 175-pound decision over classmate Neptaly Trujillo. The second bout also featured a pair of classmates, as sophomore Austin Dreyer earned a decision over classmate Nick Pingel in a 197-pound matchup. Senior Joe Asenuga earned a 187-pound decision over sophomore Vlad Zhukov, while fellow sophomore Cenada Clifton-Smith earned the judges vote in his 176-pound bout with junior Elijah Calloway.
Only one of the five bouts was decided before the final bell, as freshman William Flaherty won his 190-pound contest with classmate Matthew Cuoco when the referee stopped the bout in the third round.
The Falcons return to action next Thursday (Oct 19), when they face the University of Nevada in Reno.
