Falcons Open Season with Eight Hard-Hitting Bouts

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Backed by a mix of returning talent and promising prospects, the Air Force boxing team officially kicked off the new season on Oct. 11, with a round of Friday Night Fights in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room. Stephen Bittner claimed the first Boxer of the Week honor after closing the night with a decision in the 132-pound bout.

Without a single stop by the referees, all eight season-opening bouts were left to the judges' decision.

Bittner defeated Jamal Johnson in the final match of the night, as one of three lightweight bouts. Mateus Arcano opened the competition with a 119-pound decision over Adam Sumait, while Koah Huyn made his boxing debut with a 138-pound victory over Phil Smart.

Nolan Hebein recorded a 160-pound victory over Pedro Barrientes, while James Monk picked up a 165-pound decision from Nick Holgiun and Chad Turney decisioned Caleb McCullough at 185 pounds. Gytenis Borusas defeated Laurynas Galdikas in a 200-pound matchup, while Steven Bacchus-Grant won his heavyweight contest with Matas Leckas.

The team returns to action on Oct. 18 for another round of Friday Night Fights. Action is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m., in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room.
