Air Force Claims Five Semifinal Wins at NCBA Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Behind five semifinal victories, the Air Force boxing team wrapped up the second day of action at the 2011 National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) Championships on Friday, April 8, in West Point, N.Y. The Falcons posted a 5-3 overall record in semifinals at Eisenhower Hall in West Point, N.Y.
Air Force claimed victories in the two lightest weight classes, as Drew Pineda and Matt DeMars claimed victories in the 112- and 119-pound weight classes, respectively. Pineda defeated Navy's Adam Locklear, the Midwest champion at 112 pounds, while DeMars took a decision from Army's Ceon Harris, the East champion, at 119 pounds.
Dan Starr claimed his second win as many days, decisioning Midwest champion Paul Hollwedel of Navy at 139 pounds, while Joe Silvio claimed his second win of the weekend at 156 pounds by defeating the Coast Guard's Adam Levey. Zac Spranger claimed his first national meet victory in the 195-pound contest, taking a decision from Lock Haven's Gary Miles.
Three Falcons also lost decisions today. Dalton Hall dropped a decision to Navy's Anthony Lonero at 165 pounds, while Mike McLain lost to Navy's Chris Bertucci in the 175-pound contest. Will Keuchler lost his 185-pound bout to Army's John Maddux.
Air Force is currently in second place after the semifinal round of competition. Army leads the field, while Navy is in third. The championship will decided tomorrow (April 9) with the finals at 7 p.m., at Eisenhower Hall at West Point.
