Air Force Split Decisions at NCBA Showcase

    RENO, Nev. - The Air Force boxing team collected three wins in six closely contested bouts during a National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) event in Reno, Nev., on Friday, Feb. 3. Senior Tyrus Korecki earned the team's Boxer of the Week award.

    Competing at 157 pounds, Korecki defeated Rashad Burton of UNLV. The senior claimed the coaches' weekly award after applying constant pressure for all six minutes to frustrate his UNLV opponent.

    Nolan Hebein and Denis Vorobyov also collected wins for the Falcons at Reno. Hebein decisioned Washington's Bernard Do in a 160-pound matchup, while Vorobyov earned the judges' decision over Nevada's Nick Anderson at 175 pounds.

    Will Petersen (140 pounds vs. Jarred Santos), Glenn Miltenberg (150 pounds vs. Cordarius Taylor) and Logan Brandt (192 pounds, Josue Gaytan) all dropped close decisions to boxers from the host school of Nevada.

    Air Force opens the Wing Open Tournament this week (Feb. 9) with several preliminary bouts.
