Air Force Collects 6-2 Record at NCBA Invitational

All six victories came by decision.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Compiling a 6-2 overall record, the Air Force boxing team wrapped up a successful night of competition at the National Collegiate Boxing Association Invitational in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Falcons collected six victories-by-decision over opponents from UNLV, Nevada and Army.

 

Air Force quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead after taking a pair of victories from UNLV, the defending national champion. Senior Willie Lloyd opened the event at the Washington Athletic Club with a 119-pound victory over Jason Morris from UNLV in a rematch from last year's 112-pound national championship bout, which Lloyd also won.  Sophomore Nicholas Goc claimed a decision at 140 pounds over UNLV's Nathan Wong.

 

Sophomore Harvey White ended up on the wrong end of the judges' decision, as Army's Dan Hogan claimed the victory at 128 pounds.

 


 

 

The Falcons picked up decisions during each of their next four bouts. Senior Ezekiel Ignaco decisioned Alex Nyakana of UNLV at 128 pounds, while classmate Joe Conrad earned the judges' vote over Nevada's Josh Sollinger for the fifth victory of his undefeated season.

 

For the second time this season, fellow senior Ian Tuznik picked up a heavyweight decision from Army's Greg Maduro. Tuznik also defeated Maduro at the Service Academy Showcase in Detroit, Mich., earlier this season.

 

Senior Colin LaFavor also picked up a decision at 185 pounds from Jason Crocco of UNLV, while junior John Quinn lost a close 2-1 split decision to Army's Steve Soloja.

 

Air Force continues on the road next weekend, when several boxers travel to Reno, Nev., for another showdown with NCBA foes. Action is slated to begin on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. (PST) at the El Dorado Hotel and Casino.
