Falcons Conclude Friday Night Fights
Jan. 22, 2010
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force boxing room concluded its final round of Friday Night Fights for the 2010 season with nine exciting bouts to the bell on Jan. 22 in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym. Junior Michael Dunn was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week for the second time this year after defeating freshman Glenn Miltenberg in the 150-pound weight class.
Dunn, who improved his record to 3-2 on the year, used constant pressure and a strong right hand to control the bout.
Defending national champion Matt DeMars opened the night with a unanimous decision over sophomore Rainer Caparas in a 125-pound bout. Despite giving up 10 pounds to his opponent, DeMars had a longer reach and used it to his advantage.
Competing in just his second bout of the season, sophomore Mike McLain defeated Spencer Baucke in a 183-pound bout, while Richard Meldrum improved to 2-0 in FNF action with a heavyweight decision over Brett Satterfield. Meldrum used a good jab and conditioning to outlast his opponent.
Junior Joe Silvio defeated sophomore Tyrus Korecki in a 160-pound bout, while sophomore casey Habluetzel defeated junior Dalton Hall in a 169-pound bout. In a rematch of last year's Wing Open quarterfinals, Habluetzel used effective counterpunches to take a split decision from Hall.
Logan Brandt took a decision from Will Keuchler in a 192-pound bout, while John Lydiard improved to 3-1 on the year with a 163-pound decision over Kenneth Montel. Junior Michael Mizes, the top-ranked 132-pound boxer, defeated William Petersen in a close, hard-fought decision.
The Falcons travel to Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, Jan. 30, for a meet against National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) schools.
