Falcons Wrap Up Friday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force boxing team concluded its season of Friday Night Fights on Jan. 18 with 12 bard-hitting bouts that all went to the final bell. Roy Taylor was selected as the Academy's Boxer of the Week.

Taylor used his reach, lateral movement and ring generalship to outpoint Andrew Munoz in the opening bout of the night at 137 pounds. The sophomore used a good one-two punch to keep his junior opponent off-balance, as he controlled the bout from start to finish.

In the lightest weight class of the night, Jacob Berggren decisioned Peter Coote at 130 pounds. Nate Gamble picked up a 132-pound decision over Michael Magtalas, while Donny Macary and Ethan Salgado earned victories at 144 pounds (Jacob McGill) and 146 pounds (Jin Yang), respectively.

Jacob Bessler earned the judges' vote over Mike Kelly in the 158-pound contest, while Mike Leland defeated Nicholas Holguin by decision in the 165-pound bout. Boxing just two pounds apart, Chris Nelson and Brandon Pitts earned respective victories at 168 pounds (Zigmas Polinauskas) and 170 pounds (Shane Riley). Javier Arana defeated Justin Loutfy at 175 pounds, while Robert Alleman took a decision from Chad Turney in the 185-pound contest. In the night's heavyweight contest, Aaron Oats earned the decision over Sean King.

The Falcons return to action this Saturday (Jan. 26), when they travel to Seattle, Wash., for the National Collegiate Boxing Association Showcase at the Washington Athletic Club.
