Falcons Close Out Friday Slate with Nine Bouts
Jan. 17, 2014
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force boxing team closed out its Friday Night Fights season on Jan. 17 with nine bouts in Cadet East Gym. Freshman Robert Farley was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week after earning a victory in the final bout of the night.
Farley, competing in the 151-pound weight class, defeated Billy Bautista when the referee stopped their contest early. That bout was the last of four straight that were stopped before the final bell, as Derek Kinamon (144-pounds vs. Pyung Choi), Jeff Walton (167-pounds vs. Caleb Rockwell) and Otto Sunday (175-pounds vs. Chad Turney) all earned RSC victories.
Like the opening bout, the next four contests were all sent to the judges for decision. Sean Cork claimed a 156-pound victory over Sam Sheikh, while Max Zendali defeated Darnell Jones in the 178-pound bout. Ethan Salgado took a decision from Brett Hagen at 149 pounds and Tim Welkener earned the judges' vote in his 159-pound bout with Alejandro Rodriguez.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday (Jan. 25), when select boxers travel to Seattle, Wash., for a National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) competition.
