THE GAME

Air Force closes out the non-conference schedule by hosting Johnson & Wales Friday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. in Clune Arena. The Falcons will take a short break for the holidays before opening Mountain West play Dec. 27 at New Mexico.

SEASON VS. JWU

(Nov. 15, 2016) Ryan Manning scored 21 points to lead three players in double figures as Air Force rolled past Johnson & Wales, 105-62.

Manning scored 14 points in a 20-1 run over a 6:24 span as the Falcon raced to a 24-7 lead midway through the first half. The Falcons went on to score a season-high 53 points in the half, its most since scoring 59 vs. Colorado State in 2015.

The Falcons led 53-33 at the half and built the lead to as many as 43 points and were never threatened. The 105 points are the most since scoring 111 vs. Denver Feb. 16, 1999.

Manning hit eight of 13 field goals, including five of eight 3-pointers to lead the Falcons in scoring for the first time in his career. Freshman Lavelle Scottie chipped in with career highs of 10 points and six rebounds while Hayden Graham added 12 points. Brendan Leonard added career highs of eight points and three rebounds.

Air Force hit 53.5 percent from the field and has hit 50 percent or better in two of three games this season. The Falcons out-rebounded the Wildcats, 41-34, and had 25 assists on 38 field goals with only three turnovers. Air Force enjoyed a 48-20 edge in scoring in the paint and a 34-2 advantage in points off turnovers. The Falcons forced 19 JWU turnovers. All 17 players that dressed for the Falcons saw action and 15 scored in the game.

 

LAST TIME OUT

Jordan Fox and Tommy Funk scored 16 points each to lead Army West Point past Air Force, 79-54, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., in game one of the MSG Holiday Festival presented by Advanced Auto Parts.

The Black Knights took control of the game early and built a 16 point lead, 37-21, late in the first half. The Falcons closed the half with a 10-3 run to cut the lead to nine, 40-31, at halftime.

The Falcons got a 3-pointer on its first possession of the second half to cut the lead to six points, 40-34, but Army West Point answered with eight straight points to build the lead to 14 points, 48-34, with 18:01 left. Army West Point build the lead to 20 points, 64-44, with 12:07 left and never had the lead fall below 20 points the rest of the game.

Army West Point hit 42.6 percent from the field, including 51.6 from three on 16-31 shooting. The Black Knights had 18 assists and 10 steals. Air Force hit a season-low 24.6 percent from the field and committed a season-high 21 turnovers.

Trevor Lyons led the Falcons with a season-high 18 points. Jacob Van added a season-best 14 points while Ryan Manning added 12 points and a career- best nine rebounds. Frank Toohey added seven points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
