The Air Force men's basketball team opens the 2013-14 season this Sunday, Nov. 3 with an exhibition game against Regis University beginning at 2 p.m. in Clune Arena. The game is open to the public and admission is free.
The Falcons begin their second full season under head coach Dave Pilipovich, who enters the '13-14 campaign with a 20-20 record. In 2012-13, his first full season as head coach, Pilipovich led the Falcons to an 18-14 overall record, tying the fourth-most wins in one season in program history. He also became the first Air Force head coach to beat two ranked teams in the same season and owns three of AFA's four wins against ranked opponents, including an 89-88 win over #12 New Mexico, the highest ranked opponent ever defeated by Air Force. He also coached Air Force to its first-ever postseason road win with a 69-65 victory at Hawai'i in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
The Falcons will have to overcome the loss of its top six scorers from last season, including first-team all-Mountain West selection Michael Lyons. Junior co-captains DeLovell Earls and Kamryn Williams lead the way on the court this season. Earls is the top returning scorer and rebounder, averaging 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last season. Williams, meanwhile, scored 3.3 points and pulled down 2.4 boards a game last year. They are the only two players on the 2013-14 roster to have ever started a game for Air Force (Earls 22, Williams 14).
Air Force begins the 2013-14 regular season at the third-annual All-Military Classic in Lexington, Va., on Friday, Nov. 8. The Falcons will face service-academy rival Army in the first round at 1 p.m. (ET), while Citadel and VMI will play in the other first-round game.
