The Air Force men’s basketball team looks for its first sweep of a Mountain West opponent on Tuesday, Feb. 26 when it battles the Wyoming Cowboys at Clune Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on ROOT Sports. Air Force fell to 15-10 and 6-6 in the Mountain West after a 77-65 loss at Boise State last Wednesday. Wyoming dropped to 18-9 overall and 4-9 in the league following a 65-42 loss to UNLV at home on Saturday. Air Force, which defeated Wyoming 57-48 on Jan. 26 in Laramie, is tied for fifth in the Mountain West standings with Boise State, while the Cowboys are alone in seventh place.

Michael Lyons Has Historic Game vs. Colorado State
Senior Michael Lyons nearly single-handedly defeated 24th-ranked Colorado State at Clune Arena on Jan. 16. Despite a career-high 45 points by Lyons, Air Force lost to the Rams, 89-86. His 45 points were:

    • The fifth-most ever by an Air Force player in one game and the most since Bob Beckel scored a school-record 50 against Arizona on Feb. 28, 1959.

    • The most ever by an Air Force player not named Bob Beckel (Beckel owns the top four point totals)

    • The most ever by an Air Force player in a conference game and by any player in a game at Clune Arena

    • The third-highest point total in a Division I game this season

    • Lyons’ 17 made field goals were one shy of the school record (18 by Bob Beckel vs. Colorado School of Mines on Dec. 15, 1956)

    • Lyons’ 17 made field goals were the second-most ever by a Mountain West player (Jimmer Fredette - 22) and the most in a Mountain West regular-season game

Lyons Named Mountain West Player of the Week
For his efforts, Michael Lyons was named the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Feb. 18. This was the second time in his career Lyons has won the award. In addition to his career-high 45 points against CSU, he scored a game-high 27 points and tied his season-high with four assists in a 71-56 victory over UNLV on Jan. 13.
