Jacob Burtschi Named MWC Co-Player of the Week


    Air Force junior Jacob Burtschi and San Diego State junior Brandon Heath were named Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. This is the first career honor for Burtschi.

    A 6-6 forward from Chickasha, Okla., Burtschi led the Falcons to a 2-0 conference record last week with wins at TCU (63-45) and at Utah (52-51). He scored 16 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the floor, and grabbed seven rebounds vs. the Horned Frogs last Wednesday. He also collected three steals and two assists vs. TCU. Against Utah, Burtschi tallied a team-high 18 points, including the game winning three-pointer with 19 seconds left, and a team-best eight rebounds. He also had a steal and an assist vs. the Utes. On the week, Burtschi averaged 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 56.5 percent from the field (13-for-23), 44.4 percent from three-point range (4-for-9) and 80.0 percent from the free throw line (4-for-5).

    Burtschi is the fourth Air Force player to win the award this season. Antoine Hood won it on Dec. 5, John Frye on Jan. 2 and Dan Nwaelele on Jan. 9.

    The Falcons (21-5, 9-4 MWC) host New Mexico on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:05 p.m.
