SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Todd Fletcher scored a career-high 18 points and made four 3-pointers as Air Force defeated Eastern Michigan 42-37 in the consolation game of the Cable Car Classic on Friday night.
Air Force, which won despite its lowest point total of the season, turned a 22-21 deficit early in the second half into a 35-25 lead with 7:52 to go on a layup by Kyle Green. Darrell Lampley scored on a jumper to bring the Eagles (5-9) within 40-37 with 38 seconds remaining, but the Falcons (7-4) held on when Mike Fitzgerald and Chris Carter each hit a free throw down the stretch.
"This was a good win for us with our limited lineup," said Air Force head coach Jeff Reynolds. "We got some big rebounds from Colt Barnhill and Kamryn Williams and Kyle (Green) gave us some good minutes."
Barnhill played a career-high 11 minutes after starting center Taylor Broekhuis sprained his ankle Thursday night against Wagner and was not at 100 percent. Barnhill posted career-highs of five points and five rebounds. Williams also pulled a career-best five boards.
Air Force held Eastern Michigan to just over 27 percent from the field in the second half and missed all but one of its 14 3-point attempts.
The Falcons return home to open the new year against Johnson & Wales at Clune Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
