Backcourt mates Jordan Barnes and Brenton Scott scored 25 points each to lead Indiana State past Air Force, 74-64, Wednesday night a non-conference game in the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind., as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge.
Indiana State used a 13-3 run late in the second half to take it biggest lead of the game, 66-53, with 3:14 remaining. Frank Toohey scored five straight points with a layup and 3-pointer to cut the lead to eight, 66-58, with 2:01 remaining, but the Falcons could get no closer.
Barnes hit 6-13 field goals, including 6-13 from three, and had four rebounds in 36 minutes while Scott hit 10-19 from the field, including 4-10 threes, and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in 35 minutes to lead the Sycamores. Indiana State hit 46.3 percent from the field overall and out-rebounded Air Force, 31-30, and had 12 steals.
Air Force hit 45.1 percent from the field, including 35.3 from 3-point territory, but committed a season-high 20 turnovers. Lavelle Scottie scored 15 points to lead the Falcons. Ryan Manning added 12 points and six rebounds while Pervis Louder chipped in with 10 points. Toohey had 10 points, a season-high seven rebounds, three assists and matched his career-high with two steals.
Air Force falls to 3-3 overall and has lost three straight. Indiana State improved to 3-4 overall. The Falcons return to action Saturday at Denver at 1 p.m.
