George King scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Colorado past Air Force, 81-69, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Coors Events Center in Boulder, Colo.
Colorado shot 53.6 percent from the field in the second half to slowly gain control of the game. The Buffs used an 8-2 run midway through the second half to push the lead to seven, 55-48, with 13:22 to play. CU pushed the lead to nine points on several occasions, the first with 8:24 left, 68-59. Air Force was never able to get closer than seven points from there. The Buffs hit eight straight free throws to keep Air Force from getting any closer and to make up the final margin.
Colorado shot 48.1 percent from the field for the game and out-rebounded Air Force, 42-21. They also enjoyed a 15-4 advantage in second chance points thanks to 12 offensive rebounds. McKinley Wright added 19 points for Colorado.
Air Force was led by Ryan Manning, who had 17 points and matched a career high with five 3-pointers. He also grabbed a team-best five rebounds. Frank Toohey added 15 points and four rebounds and Trevor Lyons added nine points and three steals.
The Falcons, who led 34-33 at halftime, shot 43.1 percent from the field, including a 42.3 percent clip from three. Air Force hit 8-15 threes in the first half, but just 3-11 in the second half.
Air Force falls to 3-2 overall while Colorado improves to 6-0.
