Bryson Williams scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Fresno State past Air Force, 54-48, Monday night in a Mountain West game in Clune Arena at the Academy.
The Bulldogs used an 11-0 run early in the second half to a 36-25 lead with 13:45 remaining. The run came after the Falcons had scored six straight points to tie the game at 25-all. Air Force was never able to get closer than four points, 44-40, with 5:05 left, the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs hit four straight free throws in the final 1:31 to secure the win.
Ray Bowles added 11 points for Fresno State while Deshon Taylor chipped in with seven points and a team-best four assists. The Bulldogs shot just 33.9 percent from the field, including a 3-14 clip from three. Fresno State had 14 turnovers.
Air Force was led by Trevor Lyons, who recorded his second-career double-double with 11 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. He also had three steals. Caleb Morris came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points, his third-career game in double figures, all coming in the last six games. He led the team in scoring for the first time in his career.
The Falcons shot just 28.6 percent from the field, including 4-22 from three. Air Force out-rebounded Fresno State, 40-39, but had 18 turnovers. The team's 48 points matches its season low.
Air Force falls to 11-17 overall and 5-11 in the conference. Fresno State remains in the third place and improves to 21-9 overall and 11-6 in the MW. Air Force returns to action at Wyoming Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. The game will be Air Force's third in five days.
