Game One Of Blue-White Series Goes To White In Extra Innings

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball's Annual Fall Blue-White World series kicked-off Thursday with the White team downing the Blue, 4-0, in extra innings. The White team broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the top of the ninth inning of a scheduled seven inning contest.
Senior Matt Alexander drove in freshman Johnathon Bramble for the game-winning run, after Bramble led off the ninth with a double. After junior Nathan Carter singled, freshman Ethan Loosen doubled to score Alexander and Carter. Later in the inning, freshman Garrett Custons singled to drive in fellow freshman Caleb Spengler, who reached base earlier with a single.
Both teams got strong starting pitching performances out of senior Alex Truesdale and sophomore Evan Abrecht, both right-handers. Truesdale tossed seven scoreless innings for the White team, while Abrecht went six scoreless, allowing just two hits.
Freshman right-hander Andrew Austin pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings for the Blue team and also hit a double as a designated hitter. Senior Ben Ausbun had one of the Blue team's three hits, with a double.
The winning pitcher was senior right-hander Michael Ruvolo, who closed out the eight and ninth innings for the White team. Sophomore left-hander Andrew Loyd also retired a batter in the eighth inning.
Freshman right-hander Stephen Colangelo took the loss for the Blue team, pitching the ninth inning.
Game two of the series takes place tomorrow Oct. 16, at 3 p.m. and the final game will be Monday, Oct. 19.
