USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - A four-run third inning lifted the White team to a 6-2 victory over the Blue team in game one of Air Force baseball's 2008 Blue-White Series Wednesday afternoon at Falcon Field. Senior right-hander Jake Petro struck out 10 batters in five innings pitched while junior Addison Gentry added a home run for the White team.

Petro allowed just three hits and one run in the seven-inning game. Freshmen Michael Ceci and Mike Kazakoff pitched the sixth and seventh innings to close out the game.

Junior Alex Truesdale was the losing pitcher for the Blue team. Truesdale gave up five runs off six hits in three innings pitched. The right-hander struck out three. Sophomore Matt Barattino pitched the remaining three innings in relief of Truesdale. Barattino had a solid relief outing, allowing one run off three hits while striking out five.

The White team had eight hits on the day with sophomore Tytus Moss and freshman Kyle Henke collecting two hits each. Juniors Gentry, Daniel Walker and K.J. Randhawa and freshman Blair Roberts also had base hits for the White team.

The Blue team had six hits on the day with sophomore Jon McMahon and senior Jason Griggs collecting two hits apiece. Junior Ben Ausbun, freshman Jake Byorth also added base hits for the Blue team.

Both teams plated runs in the first inning. Carter led off the first inning with a walk and later came around to score on McMahon's two-out RBI-single. Gentry tied the game up with his home run.

The Blue team broke the game open in the third inning. Roberts led-off with a single and eventually made it to third base on a wild pitch. After Walker drew a walk, Randhawa executed a hit-and-run play scoring Roberts and advancing Walker to third. A wild pitch then scored Walker and moved Randhawa to second. After a ground out to second by Gentry that advanced Randhawa to third, freshman Jack Lupo executed a perfect safety squeeze-bunt play for a run.

Game two of the three-game series takes place today, Oct. 16, at 3:30 p.m. A pair of freshmen are slated to start on the mound. Aaron Kurcz takes the hill for the Blue team while Evan Abrecht gets the call for the White team.
