Air Force Baseball To Host Alumni Weekend

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Over 65 former players and coaches are slated to attend the annual Air Force baseball alumni weekend, scheduled for Thurs.-Sat., Oct. 4-6. Headlining the weekend events is Friday night's banquet guest speaker, Col. Ret., Brian Duffy, former team captain and NASA astronaut.

    Kicking off the weekend festivities Friday will be a round of golf at the Academy's Eisenhower G.C. beginning at 8:30 a.m.. Friday night is capped-off with the Alumni banquet beginning at 6 p.m.

    Duffy is a 1975 graduate of the Academy. A former baseball team captain, Duffy is a former F-15 pilot, NASA astronaut and also served as assistant director and as deputy director of the Johnson Space Center. Duffy retired from the Air Force and NASA in 2001. Currently, he is Vice President and associate program manager for the Lockheed Martin Corporation. A veteran of four space flights, he has logged a total of 40 days, 17 hours, 34 minutes and 59 seconds in space.

    Saturday features the Alumni baseball game, pitting former Falcon greats against each other. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. at Falcon Field. The festivities continue later in the day, as the Alumni tailgate begins at 4 p.m. at Falcon Stadium. The tailgate is in conjunction with the Air Force football game vs. UNLV, beginning at 7 p.m.

    Notable alumni slated to be present include former head coach Joe Robison, assistant coach Dan Litwhiler and former players Fred Olmsted (Class of `64), Roger Zoeller (`64), Bruce Huneke (`65), Bill Maggio (`71), Kyle Bartels (`78), Wade Leatham (`79), Deacon Winters (`80), J.J. Johnson (`82), Joe Romanko (`82), Roch Rhinehart (`86), Mike Kazlausky (`91), Lance Pilch (`93), Glenn Harris (`95), Mike Thiessen (`01) and more.
