Air Force baseball had 14 cadet-athletes earn 2017 Academic All-Mountain West honors, announced by the conference office. The Falcons set a program record for most all-academic honorees in a season.
The 14 all-academic honorees surpassed the previous record of eight set in 2013 and 2016.
Seniors Nathan Stanford (Meteorology, 3.34) and Russell Williams (Economics, 3.79) led the way with their fourth Academic All-MW honors.
Seniors Jacob DeVries (Management, 3.08) and Tyler Jones (Economics, 3.09) and juniors Justin Graham (Economics, 3.88), Shaun Mize (Management, 3.20), Michael Rieker (3.95, Operations Research), Ryan Robb (Aeronautical Engineering, 3.30) and sophomores Jake Gilbert (Managment, 3.05), Matt Hargreaves (Operations Research, 3.50), Daniel Jones (Operations Research, 3.30), Ethan Nichols (Management, 3.00) and Nic Ready (Management, 3.12) and freshman Jeff Gerlica (Operations Research, 3.17) earned Academic All-MW honors.
Stanford and Williams earned their third Academic All-MW honors, while Rieker and Wilkie earned their second.
A total of 986 student-athletes were named to the spring 2017 Academic All-Mountain West team. Spring sports include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and golf, softball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team. Leeway is granted due to injuries.
