USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball placed five players on the Academic All-Mountain West team, announced by the conference office today. Senior pitchers Evan Abrecht and Michael Ceci led the way with their fourth all-academic honor.
Abrecht recently graduated with a 3.51 grade-point average and a degree in Systems Engineering. The right-hander from Farmington, Ark., was Air Force's team MVP for the 2012 season. Ceci, a native of Marietta, Ga., recently graduated with a 3.83 GPA and a degree in Management.
Kazakoff, from Littleton, Colo., graduated with a 3.04 GPA and a degree in Management. Zettler, from Winter Springs, Fla., maintains a 3.10 GPA in Civil Engineering. Pierce, from Orlando, Fla., maintains a 3.0 GPA (Undecided on major).
Air Force has placed at least five players on the All-Academic team each of the last three seasons. The Falcons had six all-academic selections in 2011.
A total of 594 student-athletes were named to the spring 2012 Academic All-Mountain West team. Spring sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.
Air Force posted 60 student-athletes to the spring 2012 Academic All-MWC team. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
