USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball had three players make the 2013 Mountain West All-Conference Baseball Team, announced today by the conference office. Senior Garrett Custons and junior Seth Kline earned first-team honors and junior David Baska earned second-team honors.
The two first-team selections are the most in the Mountain West era for the Falcons and the three selections ties the 2002 and 2003 teams for the most all-conference honorees total.
Custons, a catcher/outfielder earned first-team utility honors. Custons currently leads the Falcons with a .361 batting average, to go with 74 hits, 22 doubles and 47 runs scored. The Sarasota, Fla., native was also recently named one of 15 semifinalists for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the stop catcher in college baseball. Custons also became the first player in Falcon baseball history to earn All-Conference three-straight seasons.
Kline earned first-team honors at first base. The Yakima, Wash., native batted .387 in conference play ranking fourth in the MW and fourth all-time at Air Force. Kline currently leads the team with 36 RBIs and 25 walks. He is second with 64 hits and 16 doubles. It is Kline's second All-Conference honor.
Baska earned second-team outfielder honors. In a breakout season, Baska led the Falcons with six home runs and leads the conference with 18 hit by pitches. The Overland Park, Kan., native hit five home runs and batted .324 in conference play. Last year as a sophomore, Baska had just five base hits total for the season.
The three Falcons were also named to the 2013 Madness Baseball Mountain West All-Conference Teams, announced by College Sports Madness. Custons earned first-team honors, while Kline and Baska earned second team honors.
Sixth-seed Air Force plays third-seed San Diego State later today at the 2013 Mountain West Championship. First pitch at Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif., is 3 p.m. PST.
