Air Force Downed By UNLV, 18-6
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Scoring in all but one inning, UNLV defeated Air Force, 18-6, in a Mountain West Conference baseball game Thursday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 10-34 on the season and 1-19 in conference play. The Rebels improve to 25-28, 10-10.
UNLV reliever Chris Saddoris (6-7) picked up the win allowing two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Rebel starter Kevin Skogley went just 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Alex Chalfant and Xavier Scruggs combined to pitch five scoreless innings of relief for UNLV. Air Force starter Casey Allen (1-6) took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 16 hits in seven innings pitched. Juan Perez and Jake Daly also saw action on the mound in relief for the Falcons. UNLV had 20 hits in the game, led by Keith Smith, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and eight RBI. Smith hit a 3-run homer in the second and a grand slam in the ninth. Ryan Kawalski also did well for the Rebels, going 4-for-6 with five runs scored. Air Force had 10 hits in the game, with Price Paramore and Bob Carpenter picking up a pair of hits apiece. Geno Salazar had two RBI and Chay Derbigny scored two runs. UNLV jumped ahead 5-0 with a run in the first and four in the second. Air Force rallied with four in the bottom of the second to make it a 5-4 game. The Rebels added a run in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 8-4, before the Falcons rallied with two runs in the fourth to make it a 8-6 game. UNLV went on to score 10 unanswered runs over the next five innings. Air Force and UNLV return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m.
