Air Force Plays Final Non-Conference Game At Northern Colorado
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force baseball team (10-26) travels up to Greeley to take on Northern Colorado (14-27) in a battle of the two lone Div. I baseball programs in Colorado, this Tuesday, May 2, at Jackson Field beginning at 2 p.m.
Air Force enters the week with a 10-26 record after getting swept by BYU at Security Service Field last week. The Falcons are batting .249 as a team, led by sophomore designated hitter Josh Meents, who leads the team with a .293 average, seven home runs and 25 RBI. The AFA pitching staff has an earned run average of 9.27, led by junior right-hander Mitch Brown (3-8, 4.69) who has 42 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. Northern Colorado is 14-27 on the season. They dropped two games at home to BYU early last week in their most recent action. The Bears are batting .289 as a team, led by Utah transfer Seth Tartler, who is batting .333 with 30 runs and 23 RBI. The UNC pitching staff has a 6.63 ERA led by Colorado Springs native Chris Johns (3-7, 7.27) who has 49 strikeouts in 69.1 innings pitched. UNC leads the all-time series 81-48 and has won 16 of the last 19 meetings. The two teams have met four times already in 2006. The Bears took the first two games, 13-5, on Feb. 8, and 7-3 on March 7. Air Force won the third game, 3-1, on April 5 and lost the fourth game, 15-5, on April 11. After the UNC game, Air Force plays host to San Diego State this weekend, May 5-7.
