Air Force baseball fight fielder Spencer Draws racked up his third accolade of the week, being named Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week for games played during the week of April 14-20, announced today by the conference office. Draws also earned Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and Air Force Athletics Athlete of the Week.
Draws helped lead Air Force to a perfect 4-0 week with a Tuesday win over Adams State and a weekend sweep of #20 UNLV. The sophomore batted .667, racking up 10 hits in 15 at bats. Draws hit five doubles, scored seven runs and drove in five. The Columbus, Ga., native reached base 12 times in 17 plate appearances for a .706 on base percentage. In the 17-1 win Tuesday against Adams State, Draws went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, walk and stolen base. Draws also batted .667 against UNLV (8-for-12) with five doubles. On Thursday, Draws went 1-for-4 with a double. Draws went 4-for-4 on Friday, reaching base in all five plate appearances. He scored the first run of the game for the Falcons in the 14-4 win and went on to total three runs, two RBIs and two doubles. On Saturday, Draws went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Draws drove in the go-ahead RBI with a double in the seventh inning in Air Force's 7-6 win, to give Air Force its first-ever series sweep over a ranked opponent and first over UNLV in 44 years, dating back to 1970.
Draws shared weekly conference honors with Jr. RHP Michael Cederoth of San Diego State, who was named MW Pitcher of the Week.
