Air Force Hosts Northern Colorado In Midweek Game

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force baseball team (10-19) plays host to Northern Colorado (11-19) in a battle of the two lone Div. I baseball programs in Colorado, this Tuesday, April 11, at Falcon Field beginning at 2 p.m. Live stats and a live radio broadcast of the game will be available online.

    Air Force enters the week with a 10-19 record after getting swept at TCU last weekend. The Falcons are batting .236 as a team, led by junior shortstop Geno Salazar, who leads the team with a .275 average, 25 hits and 19 runs scored. The AFA pitching staff has an earned run average of 7.25, led by senior right-hander Paul Vignola (1-1, 2.84) who has 35 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched and leads the Mountain West Conference with six saves.

    Northern Colorado is 11-19 on the season. They took two of three games from South Dakota State over the weekend. The Bears are batting .250 as a team, led by Grady Gorman, who is batting .326 with three homers and 20 RBI. The UNC pitching staff has a 6.29 ERA led by Colorado Springs native Chris Johns (3-5, 5.98) who has 37 strikeouts in 58.2 innings pitched.

    UNC leads the all-time series 80-48 and has won 15 of the last 18 meetings. The two teams have split the two time they have played each other in 2006. The Bears won the first meeting, 13-5, on Feb. 8., and the Falcons took the second game, 3-1, last Tuesday in Greeley. The 3-1 game was the lowest scoring game between the two programs since 2-1 win by the Falcons in 1984, a string of 48 games, .

    The two teams will also play each other May 2 in Greeley.

    After the UNC game, Air Force travels to Albuquerque, N.M., to take on New Mexico for three games in two days, Thurs.-Fri., April 13-14. The Thursday doubleheader will take place at Isotopes Park beginning at 2 p.m. The Friday game at Lobo Field begins at 3 p.m.
