Air Force To Play At Northern Colorado In Midweek Tilt
April 3, 2006 USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force baseball team (9-16) travels up to Greeley to take on Northern Colorado (9-17) in a battle of the two lone Div. I baseball programs in Colorado, this Tuesday, April 4, at Jackson Field beginning at 2 p.m. A live radio broadcast of the game will be available online.
The game can be heard live online at www.uncbears.com or http://www.1310kfka.com/ beginning at 2 p.m. For those in the Greeley region can listen to the game on 1310 KFKA on a tape delay beginning at 7 p.m.
Air Force enters the week with a 9-16 record after going 1-3 at the Mountain West Conference Preseason Tournament at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, Calif., last weekend. The Falcons are batting .242 as a team, led by sophomore designated hitter Josh Meents, who leads the team with a .276 average, five home runs and 17 RBI. The AFA pitching staff has an earned run average of 7.14, led by junior right-hander Mitch Brown (3-5, 3.57) who has 34 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched.
Northern Colorado is 9-17 on the season. They split a two-game series at Nebraska, defeating the second-ranked Huskers last week. The Bears are batting .272 as a team, led by Grady Gorman, who is batting .337 with three homers and 20 RBI. The UNC pitching staff has a 6.46 ERA led by Colorado Springs native Chris Johns (3-4, 5.02) who has 35 strikeouts in 57.1 innings pitched.
UNC leads the all-time series 80-47 and has won 15 of the last 17 meetings. The Bears defeated the Falcons 13-5 earlier this year on Feb. 8. The two teams will also play each other April 11 at the Academy and May 2 in Greeley.
After the UNC game, Air Force travels to Forth Worth, Texas, to take on TCU this weekend, April 7-9. Live stats and free online radio broadcasts will be available for all three games of the TCU series.
