Air Force Baseball Swept At BYU With 18-5 Loss


    PROVO, Utah - Brigham Young completed a three-game sweep of Air Force with a 18-5 win in Mountain West Conference baseball action, Saturday night in front of 1,759 fans at Larry H. Miller Stadium. The loss drops the Falcons to 5-20 on the season and 0-6 in MWC play.
    BYU (20-7-1, 8-1 MWC) jumped out to a early 4-0 lead after scoring a run in the first and three more in the second. The Cougars led 8-0 after four innings, before the Falcons scored three runs in the top of the fifth to make it an 8-3 game.
    BYU then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead to 16-3. The two teams traded runs in the sixth and Air Force added one more run in the seventh while BYU scored two more runs.
    Cougar starter Blake Torgerson improved to 4-1 on the season, allowing three runs on five hits and one strikeout in five innings pitched. BYU had 19 hits on the day, with four players homering. Brandon Taylor continued his hot hitting, smacking two more home runs in the game, to give him four long-balls in the last two games.
    Falcon starter John Meyers took the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season after surrendering four runs on five hits in two innings pitched. AFA had nine base hits in the game, led by Reid Lamson's 2-for-5 performance. Geno Salazar also extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a double.
    The Falcons return to action, Fri.-Sat., April 8-10, playing host to Utah at Falcon Field at the Academy. Friday's game begins at 2 p.m., Saturday's at 1 p.m. and Sunday's game at noon.
