Air Force Baseball Concludes 2011 With Saturday Loss To BYU

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball wrapped up the 2011 season with a 20-5 loss to BYU Saturday at Falcon Field. The Falcons conclude the 2011 season with a 19-36 overall record and 4-20 mark in Mountain West Conference play.
With the wind blowing out, BYU (29-25, 11-12) hit four homers on the day, two coming from Jaycob Brugman. Brugman led BYU's 20 hit attack, going 4-for-6 with four runs and four RBIs. Alex Wolfe added a grand slam and Brock Luker hit a three-run pinch-hit homer.
BYU starting pitcher Mark Anderson (4-2) pitched six innings, allowing four runs, while striking out six in the win.
Air Force starting pitcher Brad Pingel (0-2) took the loss, striking out four in 4.2 innings pitched. Matt Zettler, Alex Baker, Jack Hourin, Stephen Colangelo, Kyle Van Alstine and Michael Ceci pitched in relief for AFA.
The Falcons had nine hits in the game. Garrett Custons led the way for the Falcons, going 2-for-2 with a homer and double. Blair Roberts added two hits. Junior second baseman Victor Iacobbo also made his Falcon debut late in the game.
Air Force led 4-3 after four innings, but BYU took control of the game with two runs in the fifth to go up 5-4. The Cougars erupted for five in the sixth, seven in the seventh and three in the eighth.
The game wrapped up the careers of five Air Force seniors. The class of 2011, consisting of Nathan Carter, Parker Mayo, Jon McMahon, Brad Pingel and Vai Schierholtz were honored prior to first pitch for their contributions to Falcon baseball.
