Air Force Falls To BYU Friday, 18-4

    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force baseball team dropped a 18-4 Mountain West Conference game to BYU Friday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 12-42, 2-20, while the Cougars improved to 25-28, 12-11.

    Cougars put up five runs in the third inning and blew the game wide open with seven runs in the fifth. BYU had 20 hits on the day. Ryan Bernal led the way, going 4-for-6 with two home runs, two doubles and six RBIs.

    Stephen Wells and Austin Hall also homered for the Cougars.

    Air Force had 11 hits on the day. Freshman shortstop Matthew Roberts led the way, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Alex Bast also continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4. Garrett Custons added a triple.

    BYU starting pitcher Mark Anderson (2-1) struck out seven in five innings for the win. Shawn Hardesty earned the save by pitching the final four innings.

    Falcon starting pitcher Todd Del Toro (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, in 2.1 innings of work. The Falcons also used Ben Bertelson, Alex Baker, Andrew Loyd, Matt Zettler and Jack Hourin in relief.

    Air Force concludes its 2010 season tomorrow, May 22. First pitch vs. BYU is at 12 p.m.
