FORT WORTH, Texas - The Air Force baseball team dropped a 5-3 Mountain West Conference game at #4 TCU Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 12-40, 2-18, while the Horned Frogs improved to 4--12, 19-5.
TCU overcame two Air Force leads to rally to the win.
Air Force and TCU scored two runs in the fifth inning to break up a scoreless game. The Falcons took a brief 3-2 lead with a run in the sixth. The Horned Frogs then took the lead in the seventh with two runs. They added a fifth run in the eighth.
The Air Force pitching corps continued its strong pitching, holding TCU to five hits in the game. Sean Carley, who ended Saturday's Falcon win by picking up the save, gave one of his best starting outings of the season. Carley held TCU to two runs off three hits in five innings, striking out three. In addition to Carley's strong performance, Michael Ceci and Ben Bertelson had scoreless relief outings for AFA.
TCU reliever Tyler Lockwood (6-2) picked up the win. Starter Erik Miller went five innings, allowing two runs while striking out three. Kaleb Merck pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season.
Air Force had six hits in the game. Garrett Custons led the way, hitting his eighth home run of the season.
Jerome Pena led TCU with a solo home run.
The Falcons return to action Thursday, May 20, hosting BYU. First pitch is 2 p.m.
