USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force failed to capitalize on late inning opportunities, dropping an 8-4 contest to UNLV in Mountain West Conference baseball action Friday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 17-33, 3-20 and improved the Rebels to 21-34, 9-14.

The Falcons had several chances to make a game of it, but stranded five base runners in the final two innings, including the bases loaded with one out in the ninth.

UNLV relievers Troy Watson, Michael Goodman and Adam Moser combined to hold the Falcons to one unearned run over the final four innings of the game. Moser picked up his sixth save of the season. Rebel starter Marc Baca (2-4) went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits for the win.

Falcon starter Jake Petro (1-7) took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out one. Reliever Jason Griggs kept Air Force in the game, allowing just two hits in 4.2 shutout innings of relief.

UNLV scored two runs in four of the first five innings. Air Force put together a three-run second inning to pull to within 4-3, but four unanswered runs by the Rebels made it hard for the Falcons to catch up.

UNLV had 13 hits in the game. Rance Roundy and Anthony Morel both had three hits each to lead the Rebels.

Air Force had 11 hits in the game. Vai Schierholtz led the way for the Falcons, going 3-for-4 with a double. Addison Gentry and Chay Derbigny had two hits each for the Falcons and Nathan Carter also hit a double.
