Air Force Downed By San Diego State, 17-9, On Sunday

    SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force baseball team dropped a 17-9 Mountain West Conference ballgame at San Diego State Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 11-37, 1-15 while the Aztecs improved to 25-23, 10-8.

    San Diego State continued its weekend trend of putting up runs in bunches, scoring four runs in the fifth and sixth innings and five in the eighth.

    Trailing 12-3, Air Force mounted a furious late-game comeback with a five-run eighth, pulling to within four at 12-8. San Diego State put the game way, however, with the big eighth inning of its own.

    The Falcons had 10 hits on the day. Matt Alexander led the way, going 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs. Garrett Custons added two hits and three RBIs.

    K.J. Randhawa capped off a scorching hot week, going 1-for-2 and reaching base four times with two hit-by-pitches and a walk. In four games this week, Randhawa batted .750 (12-for-16) and had a .789 on-base percentage.

    The Aztecs had 16 hits in the game. Cory Vaughn and Guy Willeford had three hits each for SDSU. Willeford added five RBIs and a homer. Brandon Meredith and Ryan O'Sullivan also homered for San Diego State.

    Air Force starting pitcher Sean Carley (2-5) took the loss, pitching four innings. Evan Abrecht followed with three innings in relief, allowing one earned run while striking out four. Stephen Colangelo also pitched one inning.

    San Diego State starting pitcher Corey Black (2-1) went seven innings, allowing seven runs, while striking out nine. Reliever Ryan Wynveen pitched the final 1.1 innings to pick up his first save of the season.
