Air Force Defeats Northern Colorado 9-7 Tuesday

    GREELEY, Colo. - Air Force baseball defeated Northern Colorado 9-7 in non-conference action Tuesday at Jackson Field. The Falcons improved to 13-30 while the Bears dropped to 19-20.

    The Falcons broke open a 7-7 tie with two runs in the eighth inning for the win. Sophomore Ben Yokley (2-3) picked up the win in relief and senior Ben Bertelson notched his second save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth.

    Air Force had nine hits in the game. Senior right fielder Garrett Custons led the way offensively, going 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs. Leftfielder Spencer Draws added two doubles.

    The Falcons jumped out 6-0 with a six-run second inning. Northern Colorado chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the fourth, four in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh. Air Force added a run in the fifth.

    Northern Colorado reliever Ben Packard (0-1) took the loss. Bear starting pitcher Matt Loutzenhiser allowed five runs in 1.1 innings pitched. The Bears had 15 hits in the game. Shortstop Ryan Yamane had three hits to lead UNC.

    Air Force starting pitcher Todd Del Toro pitched four innings, striking out one. Jack Hourin and Dillon Freeman also pitched in relief.

    Air Force is slated to play Adams State tomorrow at the Academy. First pitch, weather permitting, is 3 p.m.
