USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball defeated Nevada 7-5 in Mountain West action Sunday at Falcon Field. The Falcons improved to 12-30, 5-16, while the Wolf Pack dropped to 22-21, 9-12.
Air Force pushed across two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break up a 5-5 tie ballgame. Junior center fielder David Baska hit an RBI single with one out to score senior catcher Garrett Custons from second base for the go-ahead run. Junior first baseman Seth Kline then laced a double down the right field line to score Baska from first for the second run in the eighth.
Senior righthander Alex Baker (4-3) picked up his second win of the week, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Starting pitcher Steven Trojan held Nevada to two runs in five innings pitched, striking out four. Ben Yokley also pitched in relief.
The Falcons had 13 hits in the game. Baska went 3-for-4 with four runs scored to lead the way. Senior shortstop Matt Thorne went 3-for-3. Custons and freshman rightfielder Spencer Draws added two hits. Kline reached base four times, drawing three walks on the day.
Michael Fain (2-3) took the loss in relief for the Wolf Pack. Starting pitcher Tom Jameson allowed five runs in five innings pitched.
Nevada had 11 hits on the day. First baseman Hugo Hernandez had three hits and a run scored to lead the Wolf Pack.
Air Force led 5-1 early on after putting up runs in the first and third and three in the fifth. Nevada scored runs in the fifth and sixth before tying the game up with three runs in the seventh.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, April 30, at Northern Colorado.
