USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball defeated San Diego State, 10-7, Friday for its fifth-straight win at Falcon Field this Friday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 11-29, 4-12 and dropped the Aztecs to 19-24, 8-8.
A pair of three-run innings midway through the ballgame was enough to hold off SDSU. Sophomore right-hander Cameron White (3-7) gave the Falcons 7.2 gritty innings pitched in the start and senior righty Mike Kazakoff earned Air Force's first save of the season with a scoreless 1.2 innings in relief.
The Falcons got two hits and three RBIs from both freshman leftfielder David Thomas and senior first baseman Adam Hill. Garrett Custons, Alex Bast and Noah Pierce added two hits each. Bast doubled and tripled for AFA. Blair Roberts reached base four times, drawing three walks and scoring two runs.
San Diego State starting pitcher Michael Cederoth (2-3) took the loss, allowing six runs in four innings pitched. The Aztecs had 13 hits in the game. Tim Zier and Ryan Muno had three hits each, with Muno hitting a solo home run.
Air Force jumped ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the third inning. Both teams traded runs in the fourth. After SDSU scored a run in the fifth, the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 6-2. After an Aztec run in the sixth, the Falcons scored three more in the bottom of the inning to go up 9-3.
San Diego State made things interesting by scoring a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to claw to within two runs at 9-7. The Falcons got an insurance run in the eighth to go back up by three at 10-7. Kazakoff pitched the scoreless ninth to give the Falcons the win.
Air Force and San Diego State return to action tomorrow. First pitch is at 1p.m.
