FRESNO, Calif. - The Air Force baseball dropped a 5-3 ballgame at Fresno State in Mountain West action Sunday at Beiden Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 10-28, 4-14 and improved the Bulldogs to 13-24, 8-10.
Fresno State broke up an early 1-1 tie with a run in the third inning. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the third to lead 5-1. Air Force scored two runs in the sixth to pull within two runs, but that would be as close as it would get.
Air Force had seven hits in the game. Junior center fielder David Baska led the Falcons at the plate, hitting his fifth home run of the season. Senior second baseman Matthew Roberts and freshman designated hitter Zach Reks also hit doubles.
Starting pitcher Steven Trojan (3-4) went 3.1 innings, striking out four. The Falcon bullpen combined to toss 4.2 scoreless inning of relief. Todd Del Toro, Bo Wilson, Dillon Freeman and Ben Yokley pitched in relief for AFA.
Fresno State starting pitcher Jordan Brink (3-1) tossed a complete game, striking out 12 in the win. The Bulldogs had six hits. Leadoff hitter Chris Mariscal homered and drove in three runs to lead Fresno State.
Air Force returns to action Wednesday at Northern Colorado.
