FRESNO, Calif. - The Air Force baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader at Fresno State in Mountain West action Saturday at Beiden Field. The Falcons dropped game one 7-0 and game two 8-6.
The losses drop the Falcons to 10-27, 4-13 and improved the Bulldogs to 12-24, 7-10.
In game one, Bulldog starting pitcher Blake Quinn (2-1) tossed a four-hit shutout.
Falcon starting pitcher Ben Bertelson (1-4) also pitched a seven-inning complete game for the Falcons, striking out six.
Fresno State scored two runs in the first and one in the third and fifth innings. The Bulldogs tacked on three more runs in the seventh.
In game two, Fresno State broke up a 6-6 tie with two runs in the seventh inning. The loss overshadowed a strong rally by the Falcons, who erased a 6-2 deficit with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Fresno State reliever Jake Shull (1-1) picked up the win. Starting pitcher Tyler Stirewalt pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two runs. The Bulldogs had 15 hits in the game. Right fielder Jordan Luplow went 4-for-4 with three runs and centerfielder Aaron Judge went 3-for-4 with a homer and three runs scored.
Fresno State jumped ahead 4-0 with a run in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. Air Force and Fresno State scored two runs each in the fifth.
Air Force and Fresno State wrap up the series with one game tomorow, starting at 1 p.m. PST.
