Air Force Swept In Friday Doubleheader at Fresno State

    FRESNO, Calif. - The Air Force baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader at Fresno State in Mountain West action Friday at Beiden Field. The Falcons dropped game one 9-4 and game two 8-5.

    The losses drop the Falcons to 10-25, 4-11 and improved the Bulldogs to 10-24, 5-10.

    In game one, Fresno State broke up a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth and went on to win 9-4. Air Force was the home team in the seven inning game.

    The Falcons had nine hits in the game. Junior centerfielder David Baska led the Falcons with two hits. Senior catcher Garrett Custons, who reached base four times in the game, added two runs.

    Freshman Trent Monaghan (0-1) took the loss in the start, striking out three in four innings pitched. Seniors Jack Hourin and Todd Del Toro closed out the game in relief.

    Fresno State starting pitcher Derick Velazquez (3-2) pitched a complete game in the win. The Bulldogs had 12 hits in the game. Pinch hitter/designated hitter Jordan Brink went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead Fresno State.

    In game two, Fresno State broke up a 5-5 tie with the go-ahead run scored in the seventh inning and went on to win 8-5.

    The Falcons managed just five runs despite getting 15 hits in the game. Four Falcons had multiple-hits, with sophomore catcher Brian Sicher, freshman second baseman Spencer Draws and Baska recording three hits each. Sophomore third baseman Tyler Saleck added two hits and two RBIs.

     

     

    Falcon starting pitcher Cameron White (2-8) went 6.2 innings, tying a career-high with seven strikeouts. Freshman Bo Wilson and sophomore Dillon Freeman closed out the game in relief.

    Fresno State had 16 hits in the game. Centerfielder Aaron Judge led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Reliever Greg Mundell picked up the win. Starter Tyler Linehan lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing two runs.

    The Falcons jumped ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the first. Fresno State tied the game up with two runs in the bottom of the inning and then scored three runs in the second to go up 5-2. The Falcons battled back with runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh to tie the game back up. The Bulldogs then scored the run in the seventh and added two more in the eighth.

    Air Force and Fresno State will play another doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch for game one is at 2 p.m. PST.
