USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Jarod Berggren's two-out, two-run home run in the ninth inning lifted Northern Colorado to a 6-5 win over Air Force baseball Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 14-23, while the Bears improved to 8-26.

Berggren homered to right field on a full count, and after fouling off five consecutive offerings from Air Force closer Stephen Colangelo (0-2). The loss overshadowed a middle-relief performance from the Falcons.

The Falcons battled back from Northern Colorado's three runs in the first inning by scoring single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to tie the game. The Falcons took the lead in the fifth with two runs on back-to-back RBI hits by Matt Thorne and Parker Mayo.

Air Force got back into the game as relievers Cameron White, Jack Hourin and Matt Zettler combined to throw 5.1 scoreless innings in relief. Colangelo, who took the loss, worked his way out of a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the eighth, but ultimately couldn't get out the ninth unscathed.

Falcon starting pitcher Michael Ceci pitched two innings. White worked 4.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three.

Air Force had 12 hits in the game. Sophomore left fielder Alex Bast continues to swing a hot bat, leading the team with a 3-for-4 performance, which included two doubles and two runs scored. Junior second baseman Blair Roberts and Thorne added two hits each and Mayo added a double.

Northern Colorado had 14 hits in the game. Berggren and Ben Packard had three hits to lead the Bears.

Reliever Brendan Hall (1-0) picked up the win. Cameron Tallman collected the save with a scoreless ninth. UNC starting pitcher Chris Carlberg went three innings, allowing two runs.

Air Force returns to action Thursday, April 21, hosting San Diego State in a three-game Mountain West Conference series.
