Air Force Drops 18-14 Slugfest At Northern Colorado Tuesday

    GREELEY, Colo. - The Air Force baseball team dropped an 18-14 non-conference ballgame at Northern Colorado Tuesday afternoon at Jackson Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 7-25, while the Bears improved to 13-15.

    The game featured 38 combined hits and seven home runs. Northern Colorado had 23 hits and six homers. Seth Budde led UNC's offense by going 6-for-6. Jarod Berggren and Adrian Schenk both hit two homers each for the Bears.

    Air Force had 15 hits in the game, including a homer by Ben Ausbun and triples by Matt Alexander and Nathan Carter. Garrett Custons went 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead the Falcons. Carter hit his Mountain West Conference-leading seventh triple of the season, which also ranks fourth in the nation.

    In a see-saw affair, Air Force led on four separate occasions. The Falcons plated three runs in four of the first five innings and led 12-10. Northern Colorado took control of the game for good in the sixth, plating six runs to go ahead 15-12.

    Air Force scored two more in the eighth, but UNC responded with three in the bottom of the inning. The Falcons used six pitchers in the game, while the Bears went with eight.

    Matt Zettler (1-3) took the loss in relief for Air Force. Starter Alex Baker pitched the first 2.1 innings. He was followed by Andrew Loyd, Zettler, Ben Bertelson, Stephen Colangelo and Evan Abrecht.

    Ben Packard (1-1) earned the win in relief for Northern Colorado. Starter Cameron Tallman went three innings.

     

     

    Five Falcons reached multiple hits on the day. Alexander, Ausbun, Adam Hill and Matthew Roberts collected two hits each for AFA.

    Air Force returns to action Friday, April 16, beginning a three-day, four-game series at Georgia State. First pitch Friday is slated for 6 p.m. EST.
