Air Force Rallies To Down New Mexico State 9-6

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball rallied back from a five-run deficit to down New Mexico State, 9-6, in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Field. The win lifted the Falcons to 7-24 and dropped the Aggies to 13-19.
Trailing 6-1, Air Force scored eight unanswered runs to pull out the win. The Falcons also got an outstanding relief outing from sophomore Trent Monaghan (1-3), who picked up his first-career win. Monaghan held NMSU to just two hits in six scoreless innings pitched, striking out a career-high eight.
The Falcons had nine hits on the day and were also aided by six Aggie errors. First baseman Tyler Saleck went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs and left fielder Tyler Jones went 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles and two stolen bases to lead AFA.
Air Force starting pitcher Bo Wilson went three innings, striking out three.
New Mexico State had 11 hits in the game. Right fielder Michael Paulson led four Aggies with two hits, going 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs. Reliever Trey Higginbotham (0-3) took the loss for NMSU. Starting pitcher Robert Kraft went 2.1 innings, allowing three runs.
New Mexico State jumped ahead early, building the 6-1 lead with two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the third.
The Falcons, who scored a run in the first, began to chip away at the Aggie lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. The Falcons added runs in the fourth and fifth to pull to within one run.
A four-run fourth inning, with all four runs coming with two outs, put the Falcons ahead for good. After a double play, the Falcons sent seven consecutive batters to the plate. The go-ahead run came on a failed pickoff attempt of third base that scored Jones.
Air Force returns to action tomorrow at Northern Colorado. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. MST.
